Summer in the mountains......
In the heart of the three mountain ranges of the Beaufortain, the Lauzière and the Vanoise, Valmorel is situated at the edge of forests and at the start of the mountain pastures.The resort has heaps to offer in the summertime with activities for all the family and a great mountain climate that is hot yet refreshing and not at all humid. All the local bars, restaurants and supermarkets are open just as in winter and the summer season operates from the end of June to the end of August. The swimming pool in the resort is located just behind our apartment and is a great place to cool off and catch some rays relaxing by the pool. If you want more adventurous water sports Valmorel can offer kayaking, white water rafting, hot-doging (two person canoe), swimming in white water and canyoning. There is a list of guides operating in the resort who can help arrange organised excursions in all these activities.
For those of you who prefer to keep your feet (or wheels) on the ground there is mountain biking available on numerous trails around and above the resort (save your legs and use the cable car to get right to the top of the mountain!) as well as hiking and rock climbing. For the more sedate sports there are tennis courts and also a golf practice curcuit. There is also archery and fencing available as well as a children's playground area.
For the really adventurous there are two state qualified instructors who offer accompanied paragliding flights, or why not book up for a beginners course and learn how do do this incredible sports all by yourself! |
